Fundación MAPFRE launches fourth edition of campaign “ Street Smart” to encourage road safety

Fundación MAPFRE, represented in Malta by MAPFRE Middlesea plc and MAPFRE MSV Life plc, has launched its 4th edition of the popular theatre in education project “Street Smart”. The project will continue to address students on the pressing issue of transport safety through a variety of fun and creative sketch shows that offer a high level of interaction with their audiences.

Fundación MAPFRE’s Street Smart will visit a total of 20 schools in the coming 3 months. Given the organiser’s unfaltering commitment to top quality entertainment, the campaign is expected to be extremely well received by students, teaching staff and administrations alike, as all previous editions. This project is endorsed by The Ministry for Education and Employment, Transport Malta and the Malta Road Safety Council.
Throughout the years, Fundación MAPFRE have proven to be a stalwart example of corporate social responsibility, having funded and organised a number of similar projects such as Caqlaq – an interactive healthy lifestyle project targeting primary school children and their parents as well as Street Smart TV – a televised 12 episode comedy show focusing on transport safety.

“Road safety is a great subject in which to engage children and the younger audience. This is why Fundación MAPFRE are sponsoring this initiative in order to help educate the younger generation on road safety and to encourage young future drivers to practice responsible driving” said Martin Galea, Chairman of MAPFRE Middlesea during one of the shows held at St Aloysius College.

Street Smart are organising several educational sketches for primary school children to enjoy, participate in and learn from. These sketches will be intended to teach future drivers at an early age by embedding a mentality that adopts responsible road manners.
The young pupils have been taught numerous things through visual and interactive stimuli during the sketches, such as to always wear a seat belt, pay close attention to traffic lights, say no to drink-driving and speeding, refrain from using a phone whilst driving and remain fully alert at all times when on the road.

The young students participated in the sketches by answering a number of road safety trivia and engaging in a set of educational yet ‘fun’ activities to learn from. These children will now be able to understand the importance of sustaining safer streets from a young age.
