MAPFRE to hold Conference in collaboration with the University of Malta on Pensions Landscape and Future Sustainability

The “Current Pensions Landscape and Future Sustainability” conference is being organized by MAPFRE in collaboration with the Department of Insurance and Risk Management, University of Malta and with the participation of BOV. It promises to be an informative and thought-provoking event. It will serve as a platform for dialogue and learning, aiming to shape the future of pensions in Malta and ensure financial security for individuals and organizations alike.

Pensions play a pivotal role in securing a financially stable retirement for individuals while also allowing employers to invest in their employees’ future, thereby enhancing their competitiveness in a demanding job market. With the ambitious VOPS (Voluntary Occupational Pension Scheme) initiative on the horizon, it’s crucial to explore the current state of pensions in Malta and chart a course towards future sustainability.

The MAPFRE conference boasts an exciting agenda, featuring prominent speakers and experts who will shed light on various aspects of pensions.

Dr Patrick Ring has a PhD in Pensions Policy from Glasgow Caledonian University.  He is also a Member of the Chartered Institute of Securities and Investment and Chartered Insurance Institute, an Associate of the Pensions Management Institute and a Fellow of the UK Higher Education Academy. Patrick’s teaching and research interests include pension policy and reform; financial regulation and compliance; trust and risk, including risk culture, in financial services; and financial education and awareness

Gonzalo de Cadenas Santiago, Executive Director of Mapfre Economics, holds a PhD from the University of Berlin, where he holds an academic advisory position. Gonzalo focuses his work on global geoeconomics and sectorial dynamics in an effort to help navigating these uncertain times

Eduardo Ripolles de la Pena ,Head of Institutional Business Development & Sales at MAPFRE AM. Eduardo has more than 25 years of experience in the finance sector and holds an International MBA from IE Business School and has been a member of the EFPA since 2003. CESGA (Certified ESG Analyst) since 2021.

David Spiteri Gingell was the chair of pension reform groups between 2004/2012 and a member of the Pension Strategy Group between 2013/2021.  David stewarded the first national strategy on financial capability and set up and led ĠEMMA, which was responsible for its implementation. David held various chair, board, and CEO positions in government and NGOs

The conference also boasts a line of well know local keynote speakers including Petra Ellul Mercer and Adrian Sacco (Ministry of Social Policy),  Bernard Attard and Victoria Muscat (PwC) and counts with a discussion panel which includes Marthese Portelli (Malta Chamber of Commerce), Tonia Parascandalo (BOV), Michael Galea (MAPFRE MSV Life) and Eduardo Ripolles de la Pena.

Professor Frank Bezzina ,Pro-Rector of the University of Malta,  and Dr Gordon Cordina, chairman of MMSV and BOV will open the conference  which will be moderated by Rebecca Dalli Gonzi.
