MAPFRE in the 2023 Bloomberg Gender-Equality Index

MAPFRE is one of the 485 companies that form part of the 2023 Bloomberg Gender-Equality Index (GEI), which recognizes companies around the world that stand out for their promotion of equality and their transparency in providing gender-related information.

The Bloomberg index measures gender equality across five pillars: female leadership and talent pipeline, equal pay and gender pay parity, inclusive culture, sexual harassment policies and pro-women brand.

For the third consecutive year, the insurer appears in this year’s index having scored 81.28, above the average global score established by Bloomberg (73%), which reflects an improvement in disclosure and adoption of best policies in the five pillars analyzed.

Among the main initiatives contributing to progress in terms of gender equality in the company, the MAPFRE Women’s Leadership Network is worth particular mention. Aimed at increasing the presence of women in managerial positions, it is active in countries including Spain, Brazil, the United States, Mexico, Peru and Turkey. MAPFRE also has a specific plan to eliminate the pay gap and has participated for a number of years in ClosinGap, a cluster of 11 companies that analyzes the economic impact caused by women not having the same opportunities in areas such as pensions, consumption, employment and education.

MAPFRE relies on the talent and commitment of people regardless of their gender as part of its commitment to sustainability. The company believes that equality is not just a matter of justice, but fundamental for the progress of society, for companies to be more competitive and also for the development and happiness of individuals. In this progress towards gender equality, the company, which has its own diversity strategy (known as Inclusion for Sustainable Growth), has worked to create a favorable environment so that all MAPFRE people can contribute their talent without gender or any other type of discrimination.

MAPFRE has a Diversity and Equal Opportunity Policy that aims to build a culture of respect for people and consolidate diversity-friendly behaviors and attitudes while ensuring truly equal opportunities. The company currently employs more than 17,300 women, who make up 55.4% of the workforce, more than 42% of them in managerial positions.

Three years ago, MAPFRE signed up to the UN Women Principles, the United Nations organization dedicated to promoting gender equality and the empowerment of women, to which a total of 7,469 companies around the world currently belong. The principles include establishing high-level corporate leadership for gender equality, treating all women and men fairly at work, and respecting and supporting human rights and non-discrimination.

As a member of the Spanish Network of the United Nations Global Compact, MAPFRE has also joined the Target Gender Equality accelerator program, an initiative to accelerate progress on SDG 5 (Gender Equality).

MAPFRE understawnds that large companies are a critical agent of change in society and has taken up the torch by #PlayingOurPart.
