Dissertation Award presented by MSV Life

MSV Life recently presented an award to Armand Busuttil for his dissertation entitled ‘The Distinctive Role of Risk Management and Internal Audit in a Maltese Life Assurance Company – A Case Study’

Mr. Busuttil had joined Middlesea Group in 2008 as a summer worker and worked until December 2010 whilst following a Bachelor of Commerce degree at the University of Malta. It was this internship experience which inspired Mr. Busuttil to use MSV Life as a case study for his dissertation.

The dissertation addresses the importance of good corporate governance and the importance of certain critical functions such as Internal Audit and Risk Management functions in the overall governance framework of a life insurance company. The study assesses and compares the roles of the Internal Audit and Risk Management functions within MSV Life with those of foreign life insurers. Findings from this study conclude that the governance framework of MSV Life compares well with that of other life insurance companies in other markets.

Mr. Busuttil completed the dissertation in April 2012 and attained a Bachelor of Accountancy (Honours) degree from the University of Malta in November of the same year. Mr. Busuttil’s dissertation was also awarded the PricewaterhouseCoopers award for the best dissertation in Insurance and Risk Management. Mr. Busuttil currently works for Deloitte.
