What does travel insurance cover?
Travel insurance will cover any expenses incurred should travel be interrupted before it starts or during the trip. If a family member gets ill or suffers serious illness, the policy covers your expenses to travel back home. If you need to cancel the trip because you are called by official agencies of the state, and you’re obliged to be somewhere else, than the insurance company will also cover the payment of costs incurred. The insurance will also cover the loss of a luggage and personal belongings, including valuables, sports equipment and musical instruments.
Is COVID-19 covered by the standard policy?

The answer is no. Any claims arising of or in connection with Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19), Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) and any mutation or variation of SARS-CoV-2 are not covered by the policy.

This means that you cannot make a claim, if for example, you fall ill with COVID-19 (or any other pandemic illness) at home and have to cancel your trip or you contract coronavirus whilst abroad and need medical treatment. There is also no cover if the person you were meant to be staying with abroad is self-isolating due to COVID-19, and you no longer have anywhere to stay and hence have to cancel your trip. There is also no cover if you were denied boarding at the airport because you have symptoms of COVID-19 or you decide to cancel your trip out of fear because of the rising cases of COVID-19. There are other situations not mentioned above but related to these diseases which are also not covered by the policy.

However, at an additional premium per person per trip, you may purchase the COVID-19 extension and add this cover under your policy.

What cover does the COVID-19 extension provide?

The COVID-19 extension covers you for non-refundable cancellation expenses and the necessary additional expenses incurred, if as a result of COVID-19, you:

  • Have to unavoidably cancel your trip because you or your travelling companion or your close relative(s) have a positive COVID-19 test result confirmed within 14 days of your departure date from Malta;
  • Have to abandon you trip abroad;
  • Have to stay beyond the original return date; or
  • If you need medical treatment abroad
Can I buy travel insurance when I am already abroad?
No, our policy must be purchased before departure from the Maltese Islands.
I suffer from a pre-existing medical condition. Would I be covered?
If you need to cancel/abandon your trip or require medical emergency assistance due to a pre-existing condition then you will not be able to claim your costs from the travel policy.
Would I be covered if during the trip I will be participating in a planned sports activity?
It is important that you inform us about this activity before purchasing your insurance policy.
Are cruises covered under the travel policy?
Yes cruises are included.
