MAPFRE Malta once again supports Action for Breast Cancer Foundation

October has become synonymous with Breast awareness campaigns and MAPFRE Malta has once again contributed towards the cause by collaborating with the NGO for the fifth consecutive year in order to raise awareness regarding the prevention and/or early detection of breast cancer.

Founded by Helen Muscat and Esther Sant, Action for Breast Cancer Foundation is a non-profit organisation that provides support to those undergoing the condition by collaborating with other entities in order to raise funds and generate awareness towards the cause. The colour pink has become a symbol of the fight against breast cancer and MAPFRE joined this cause again by adding pink to its corporate website and profiles across all its social networks.

“We feel privileged to be collaborating once again with Action for Breast Cancer Foundation in raising awareness towards the cause. The level of dedication shown in the work they do is nothing short of admirable and inspirational”, said Ana Cristina Zammit Munro, Chief Marketing Officer at MAPFRE.

Breast cancer is the most common type of cancer among women and Malta has one of the highest incidents of breast cancer in women in Europe. However, early diagnosis significantly increases the chances of survivals, and it is therefore essential to undergo mammogram and regular personal checks. For this reason the MAPFRE management in Malta decided to sponsor the costs of breast screening for all women who work for the company. This allows 186 women across the MAPFRE Malta group to do the screening.

It is highly recommended that women self-examine their breasts regularly and consult a doctor should they feel any change. However, some symptoms might be too small to be detected through self-examination and therefore mammograms are highly recommended.

Across the MAPFRE Global Group, 26 countries joined the cause, leading to a widespread participation of employees. The MAPFRE Group also helped raise awareness through its online platforms. The company’s social club added to this incentive by offering out pink muffins against a small donation, which were topped up by the company .

The aforementioned awareness, information and prevention initiatives will continue to form part of the MAPFRE Healthy company corporate model, which aims to improve the health and well-being of its employees and their families.
