MAPFRE has rolled out a global initiative that saw employees in the many countries in which the company operates donate blood for a period of 24 hours to mark World Blood Donor Day. The event took place on 14 June 2016. In Malta, MAPFRE is represented by MAPFRE Middlesea.
MAPFRE employees in the Philippines kicked off the campaign, which aimed to both increase the number of blood donations and raise awareness among employees of the importance of an action that underpins the commitment to society that is shared by all MAPFRE employees.
A little later, MAPFRE’s people in China, India and Taiwan joined the blood drive, followed a few hours after by their colleagues across Europe (in Sweden and Spain), and so on over the course of 24 hours, with the campaign continuing in America, in Chile, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela.
In Spain, blood donations were made at MAPFRE’s headquarters in Madrid, as well as at other locations in Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, Oviedo, A Coruña and Tenerife. In Malta, the blood drive will be held at MAPFRE Middlesea’s head office in Floriana on 28 July.
This initiative reinforces the sense of solidarity shared by MAPFRE employees and will help thousands of people in need of blood. Being involved in a traffic accicdent or undergoing surgery can require a blood transfusion, something that is much more common than we may think. As important as it is to donate, it is equally important to be aware of how much such a simple gesture can mean to someone in their moment of need. It could be the difference between life and death.
MAPFRE Middlesea (C-5553) is authorised by the Malta Financial Services Authority to carry on both Long Term and General Business under the Insurance Business Act, 1998.
